LONDON, DAY 2

Friday we got up early and hopped on the tube for our appointment at the Tower of London. This for me was one of the highlights of the trip. The Tower of London is fascinating. It was a royal residence for centuries, it's where the crown jewels are displayed, and it is still kept up today by Yeomen Warders of Her Majesty's Royal Palace.  They're also known as Beefeaters. These guys are so cool. In order to apply to become an official Beefeater, you have to have served in the military for at least 25 years as a high ranking officer.  These guys and their families live on the premises and are locked in every night at 10pm.  They're all fun and witty, and along with upkeep and guarding the tower, they give free tours.

Here we are at the tower!
Our first glimpse of Tower Bridge!
Here's one of the guards in front of the building that holds the crown jewels.

We all got pictures with the guard, some more willingly than others!

Unfortunately, there were no photos allowed inside the crown jewels exhibit.  It was amazing though to see all the real crowns worn by England's kings and queens!  Inside, a looped video of Queen Elizabeth's coronation had Dexter shouting "God save the clean!"

Some Beefeaters and me!

I could have spent a lot more time here, but Dex man was getting very cranky and threw a tantrum.  We had to go.  But it was still an incredible experience.

We spent the rest of the day eating pub grub and shopping.  The only notable site we walked past was St. Paul's Cathedral.
