ARTICHOKE FESTIVAL

Yesterday we headed down to Ramacca for opening night of their annual Artichoke Festival. We got there when they were still kind of setting up. These guys were getting artichokes ready, roasting them on hot coals with onion, salt and olive oil, YUM! See if you can spot dad's head among the artichokes...all veggies and one fruit! The event kicked off with a parade. There were children waving Italian flags and dressed in traditional clothes, followed by a marching band. Dexter loved the music and clapped after every song. Dad was even more excited. Dex was the only one who didn't like the artichokes. We ate a bunch of grilled artichokes. That was my dinner. You know what the best thing is about eating vegetables for dinner? You can justify extra dessert! Even some of the sweets were made with artichoke! I saw some deep fried artichokes with powdered sugar and even artichoke gelato! We all tried it and it was surprisingly good! Anyone who knows my dad will not be surprised to see that he had a run-in with the law. That carabinari didn't like the way dad was eating his ice cream cone. The overhead lights came on at night and it got even prettier. Dex got to walk awhile... 6 artichokes, one sausage panino, one nutella crepe, two ice cream cones and 4 nutella doughnuts later it was time for us to go. Good night, Ramacca!
